Trauma Therapy in Denver & online across CO and TX
Trauma doesn’t have to keep owning your story.
Does this sound like you?
“I’m tired of being constantly reminded of the past.”
“I feel like I repeat the same patterns in all of my relationships, no matter what I try.”
“I just feel stuck.”
“I haven’t made the progress I want to make in therapy.”
“I shut down mentally and can’t control when it happens.”
“I feel safe in my head but my body responds as if I’m stuck in the past.”
Maybe you’re afraid you will continue patterns and behaviors from your parents down to your children, or you feel overwhelmed by managing your relationships with your family because you revert back to your younger self when you’re around them.
Or maybe you’re finding yourself unable to ever fully relax because you’re always waiting for the next bad thing to happen. All of these feelings are leading you to fall apart after your partner makes a seemingly innocent comment, and then you feel paralyzed by fear of being abandoned by your partner or other loved ones because you just can’t keep it together.
It doesn’t have to stay like this. Trauma therapy can help.

-
As we get to know one another, you can share as much or as little of your story as you feel comfortable, knowing that with trauma therapy, you don’t need to talk through every single detail to be able to move forward. I’ll also ask you to share about what your life is like in the present, and we’ll explore ways your trauma might be keeping you stuck.
-
Before we work with your trauma directly, we will build skills for you to become aware of how you hold emotions in your body and keep yourself calm and present. You will learn breathing, grounding, and other body-focused calming skills to help you feel more in control of your emotions and prepare you for going deeper.
-
When you feel ready, we’ll process your trauma at your own pace, helping you feel less disturbed by your past and more present in your daily life. This could be through EMDR, somatic therapy, or a combination of both.
-
We’ll make meaning of your past, celebrating the resiliency it’s created for you, and help you build a future that you’re excited about.

How I work with trauma:
-
EMDR helps with trauma by rewiring the brain, making traumatic memories less upsetting. It integrates fragmented memories into a more cohesive narrative, helping you understand your experiences better. EMDR also helps you better control your emotions and find coping strategies, so you can move forward in life with greater resilience and well-being. Learn more about EMDR.
-
Somatic therapy helps with trauma by focusing on the connection between the mind and body. Trauma often manifests in the body physically, with symptoms like tension, pain, and discomfort. Somatic therapy helps you explore and process these sensations through techniques like breathwork, mindfulness, and gentle movement, releasing trauma from the body. Learn more about somatic therapy.

Trauma therapy works by going beneath the surface of your symptoms using methods like EMDR and somatic therapy and working to heal within your brain and body, rather than just working with your thoughts. It helps you re-process traumatic experiences so you don’t feel as disturbed by them and can live your life uninterrupted by trauma.

Trauma is our response to difficult events or circumstances. There’s a common misconception that trauma is only “big events” like experiencing assault or a natural disaster. The truth is, trauma is far more common than most people think - nearly all of us have experienced some type of trauma in our life. It’s also important to know that what one person experiences as traumatic might not be experienced as traumatic by someone else.
-
Trauma therapy is therapy that is focused on helping you heal from traumatic past experiences. In my practice, that means using methods like EMDR and somatic therapy that work with your trauma on a deeper level.

There’s no simple answer to this question because everyone’s story is different. Healing from trauma is a gradual process that unfolds at its own pace - some clients experience significant improvement in a relatively short period, while others require more time to work through their trauma and achieve lasting healing.
I will work with you to create a tailored-to-you plan to help you meet your goals, adjusting it along the way as needed to ensure you’re still making progress.
While the length of trauma therapy can vary, what's most important is staying curious about yourself and being willing to explore your past. Reach out for a free consultation to learn more.

We’ll start with a free 15-minute consultation where I’ll answer any questions you have and we’ll both make sure we’re a good fit for working together. I can share more about how I work with trauma and help you understand the process. From there, if you’d like to move forward, we can schedule our first appointment - I try to offer times within a week of our consultation so you can start getting the relief you need.
